Michael Griffith Killed at Howard Beach in Racist Mob Attack

Michael Griffith, 23, and two Black companions are attacked by a mob of approximately 12 white youths armed with baseball bats in Howard Beach, Queens. Fleeing the mob, Griffith is struck and killed by a car on the Belt Parkway. Keith Mellow, Jon Lester, and Scott Kern are convicted of manslaughter and assault in 1987. Al Sharpton leads marches through Howard Beach in protest.
