393,000 Black New Orleans Residents Displaced; 100,000 Never Return

Census analysis showed ~393,000 Black residents left the New Orleans metro area after Katrina. By 2010 the city's Black population fell from 67% to 59%. Broadmoor, Gentilly, and the Lower Ninth Ward redeveloped whiter and wealthier — activists called it 'ethnic cleansing by disaster.'
