NAACP Documents Black Drivers Stopped at Twice the Rate of White Drivers Nationwide

An NAACP 2005 report on 27 states showed Black drivers were stopped at 60-200% higher rates than white drivers. In New Jersey and Maryland — states under consent decrees — Black drivers were searched at 3-4 times the white rate despite lower contraband-find rates, undercutting pretextual search justifications.
