Racial Expulsion of Black Communities from Southern Towns 1890s

White mobs expelled entire Black communities from towns across the South and border states through the 1890s. In August 1894, Whitesboro, Texas residents drove out the entire Black population. Similar expulsions occurred in dozens of towns across Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky, prefiguring the sundown town phenomenon.
