NYPD Stop-and-Frisk Reaches 685,724 Stops; 87 Percent Black and Latino

In 2011, NYPD conducted 685,724 stop-and-frisk encounters — the peak of the Bloomberg-era policy. Eighty-seven percent of those stopped were Black or Latino; 88 percent were found innocent of any wrongdoing. In Floyd v. City of New York, Judge Scheindlin found in 2013 that the practice constituted unconstitutional racial profiling.
