Trump Executive Order Bans Federal Diversity Training on Systemic Racism
President Trump signed Executive Order 13950 on September 22, 2020, prohibiting federal agencies and contractors from conducting diversity trainings that include concepts such as 'white privilege,' 'systemic racism,' 'unconscious bias,' or the view that the U.S. is 'fundamentally racist.' The order was described by the White House as fighting 'divisive concepts.' Companies with federal contracts canceled trainings; trainers were blacklisted. A federal judge blocked enforcement for federal contractors in November 2020. Biden revoked the order on his first day in office, January 20, 2021. The order's language directly shaped subsequent state anti-CRT legislation.
