Officer Justin Volpe Sentenced to 30 Years for Louima Assault
NYPD Officer Justin Volpe was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to violating Abner Louima's civil rights. Co-defendant Officer Charles Schwarz was convicted of holding Louima down and received 15 years. The prosecution was the most severe federal sentence for a law enforcement officer in New York history. It followed massive protests outside NYPD headquarters organized by Rev. Al Sharpton.
