Wells Lobbies Congress for Federal Anti-Lynching Law; Is Refused

Returning from Britain with international backing, Wells presents documented lynching statistics to members of Congress and meets President Cleveland. Cleveland expresses sympathy and does nothing. Congress declines to act. Wells' lobbying establishes the model the NAACP follows for the next forty years — ultimately unsuccessfully until 2022.
