Kansas City Monarchs Win the First Negro World Series
On October 20, 1924, the Kansas City Monarchs defeated the Hilldale Club 5 games to 4 (with one tie) in the first World Series between the Negro National League and Eastern Colored League champions. Pitcher José Méndez threw a shutout in the deciding game. The series, played across Philadelphia, Baltimore, Kansas City, and Chicago, established a championship structure for Black baseball and featured Hall of Famers on both sides.
