- August 30, 1967Thurgood Marshall Confirmed as First Black Supreme Court Justice
The lead attorney in Brown v. Board of Education was confirmed by the Senate 69-11 to serve on the Supreme Court, becoming the first Black justice in American history. He would serve until 1991.
- August 1967Emlen Tunnell becomes first Black player inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame
Emlen Tunnell, a defensive back who integrated the New York Giants in 1948, became the first Black player inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Tunnell's induction opened the door for recognition of the many Black players who had been instrumental in building professional football.
